Thoughtful was built because we kept missing things we cared about. Birthdays. Anniversaries. The week a friend was going through something. Not because we didn't care — but because care had stopped being a thing you could keep in your head once you reached a certain age and a certain number of people.
The fix wasn't another reminder app. We had reminder apps. They went off in the middle of meetings and we apologized to ourselves and meant to write the card later, and later was never. The fix was a tool that nudged us a few days ahead, gave us a place to start writing on the spot, and remembered what we said last year so we didn't repeat ourselves.
So we built one. Thoughtful keeps the people who matter to you in one place — birthdays, anniversaries, the small details that make a card sound like a friend wrote it. It nudges you days early, not the morning of. When you sit down to write, it drafts in your voice, and you edit until it sounds right. It tracks the gifts you've sent so the next one isn't the same one. It quietly notices who you've been drifting from.
What we believe
A card is a small act of presence. Most of what makes a card work is that someone took twenty minutes to think about you and then mailed it. The handwriting is part of it. The specific memory is most of it. We design the app around making both of those easier, not replacing them.
AI is a starting point, not a finish line. Every card you send through Thoughtful starts with a draft and ends with you adding the part only you would say. We won't let you ship a card that's just model output. We don't think that would be a card.
Your relationships are not data. We don't sell your information. We don't train AI models on your private cards. You can read more about how we handle data on our methodology page.
Who built it
Thoughtful is made by a small team that cares about the craft of consumer software and the slower work of long-term relationships. We are based in the U.S. and we ship from a small studio that mostly smells of coffee.
