The newborn does not need a card. The new parents do. The best new-baby cards say something to the people who just had their lives reorganized.
How to write it
- Address the parents by name, not 'mom and dad'.
- Promise something concrete: a meal, a load of laundry, an hour holding the baby so they can shower.
- Don't reference how tired they look. They know.
- If it's adoption, congratulate the family, the same way you would any new family.
Examples
Real examples of new baby cards by relationship. Use them as a jumping-off point — the best card is the one with at least one specific detail only you would mention.
Welcome to the world, baby Theo. And congratulations to you two. I'm bringing dinner Thursday and I am not asking what you need, I will just leave it on the porch.
Congratulations on the newest one! Sending love to all four of you. Coffee soon, on me.
So happy for your growing family. Welcome home, little one. Welcome to parenthood, you two.
